Frequently Asked Questions About the El Escorial and Valley of the Fallen Day Trip

What will you visit during this excursion from Madrid?
This tour combines two of the most impressive historical monuments in the Madrid region. First, we will visit the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a symbol of Spanish power in the 16th century, where we will explore the Royal Palace of the Habsburgs, the Pantheon of Kings, the Basilica, and its spectacular Library. We will then continue to the Valley of the Fallen (Valle de Cuelgamuros) to see the colossal 150-meter stone cross and the impressive basilica carved into the rock.
How is transportation provided?
Round-trip transportation is provided in a comfortable, air-conditioned tourist coach. The journey through the Sierra de Guadarrama takes approximately one hour, during which our guide will provide an introductory historical overview to help contextualize the monuments we will visit. Transportation is fully included in the booking price.
Are entrance tickets included in the price?
We offer different options. You can choose a basic tour that includes transportation and a guided experience, or a package with entrance tickets included (priority access) to both El Escorial Monastery and the Valley of the Fallen, allowing you to enter directly without waiting in line. Please check the available options in the booking selector.
How long does the excursion last and what are the departure times?
This is a half-day excursion, lasting approximately 5 hours in total, including travel time. Departure from central Madrid usually takes place early in the morning to make the most of monument opening hours, allowing you to return to the city by lunchtime.
Is there a guided tour inside the monuments?
Yes, you will be accompanied by an official expert guide who will provide detailed explanations both at El Escorial Monastery and the Valley of the Fallen. Their commentary will help you understand the historical, architectural, and political significance of these sites.
Where is the meeting point in Madrid?
The departure point is located in a central and easily accessible area of Madrid (near Plaza de España). The exact location, Google Maps link, and detailed instructions will be sent to your email immediately after booking confirmation.
What clothing and footwear are recommended?
Since both sites are located in the Sierra de Guadarrama, the weather is usually cooler and windier than in central Madrid, especially in autumn, winter, and spring. We recommend bringing a warm layer and wearing comfortable walking shoes, as the visit includes stone floors and outdoor areas.
What is the cancellation policy for this tour?
We offer a flexible cancellation policy that allows you to cancel for a full refund or change your travel date at no additional cost, provided you notify us within the minimum notice period specified in the activity conditions prior to departure.

What do you think about us?

Gorka Plaza

Exactly what I needed when I landed in Madrid! I would recommend everyone to book one of these tours as the first thing to do when visiting Madrid!
